SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah Police are investigating an early morning shooting in downtown Savannah.

According to police, officers responded to Whitaker and Broughton Street for a shooting early Saturday morning.

Police say they found a female victim with non-life-threatening injuries and located a suspect vehicle.

Investigators believe the shooting wasn’t random, and stems from a fight between two groups.

So far this year here in the heart of the downtown area, there have been nine shootings including this weekend’s. Three of those nine shootings have been deadly.

While Saturday night’s shooting victim survived, the cumulative affect each violent act has on the sense of safety downtown takes a toll.

“Any, any crime is not good,” said Shyam Mirchandani.

Mirchandani manages The Athlete’s Foot, which sits less than a half block from where a 25-year old Savannah woman was shot early Saturday morning.

He and other business managers we spoke with along Broughton Street today near the shooting scene say the gun violence just piles on to issues they face more frequently, like litter and graffiti on their property.

“At the end of the day, we don’t control it. All we can ask the City is to give us more patrols, and hopefully make things better for the long run,” said Mirchandani.

This is a developing story. WTOC will provide updates as they become available.
