Crash closes one northbound lane, one southbound lane of Hwy. 21

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - A crash in Highway 21 and Shanklin Road had multiple lanes of Highway 21 closed, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

The Burton Fire District, MCAS Fire Department, and Beaufort County EMS also responded to the crash just past 6:30 a.m. Monday morning.

Two vehicles were involved in the head-on collision. Burton fire crews removed and helped stabilize a male with critical injuries who was taken to the hospital. Another occupant, a female, was pronounced dead on the scene. Burton Fire says a third person appeared to have non-life-threatening injuries.

All lanes of Trask Parkway were closed for over two hours.

The Burton Fire District noted a significant increase from 2020 to 2021 in the number of motor vehicle collisions causing injures and trapping occupants. So far for Burton fire crews in 2022, vehicle collision statistics remain on par from 2021 with 56 collisions and 34 involving injuries; however, no occupant have been trapped so far in 2022.
