A second round of $1,000 bonuses will be given out to state-funded prekindergarten and child care teachers in Georgia from the federal coronavirus aid.

The plan was announced by the Georgia Department of Early Care Tuesday. In a statement, Commissioner Amy Jacobs called the payments “a small yet significant way to recognize the dedication and hard work shown during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The first round of bonuses last year paid a total of $33.4 million to more than 33,000 teachers statewide. However, the department had set aside $65 million for payments.

Applications for Round Two of the POWER payments will be open from January 18, 2022, to February 18, 2022.
