SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is saying their final farewell to one of their own.

K9 Kyra served the Chatham community and the state of Georgia for eight years. WTOC witnessed the special bond between Kyra and her handler SGT. Jason Livie in 2017.

Monday, Chatham County’s dispatch called out to Kyra one final time.

“It means a lot to us we lost one of our own even though she is a four-legged animal she’s one of the people in our department that we love and care about,” said Sheriff John Wilcher.

“K9 Kyra has faithfully served the Chatham county sheriff’s office for 8 loyal years. Participated in 1,873 searches she protected our churches, dignitaries, ports, schools, and work places,” said dispatch during their final call to Kyra.

“They do a great job, not only home being around kids and children and the schools being around kids and children but when you them out to do a job they’re there to do a job,” said Sheriff Wilcher.

“We thank you for their dedication, loyalty and service to the citizens of Chatham County, State of Georgia and the United States. Rest in Peace K9 Kyra and God speed,” said dispatch.
