SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Savannah Police Department and the Chatham County Police Department have filed charges against a man they say is accused of impersonating a police officer.
The Savannah Police officers arrested 34-year-old Donald Williams, Jr. on Tuesday, Jan. 5, and charged him with Impersonating a Police Officer or Employee and Blue Light Restrictions on Vehicles. Both crimes are felonies. The following day, the Chatham County Police Department took out warrants on Williams for an additional felony count each of Impersonating a Police Officer or Employee and Blue Light Restrictions on Vehicles.
In recent weeks, both the Savannah and Chatham County Police Departments say they became aware of activity suggesting that a man in the area was pretending to be a law enforcement officer. They say the suspect was spotted driving a vehicle with flashing blue lights mounted on the windshield and was seen wearing a badge and reflective vest with the word “Police” on it.
The investigation led detectives to Williams, and police confirmed that he is not a law enforcement officer.
Both Savannah Police and Chatham County Police are urging anyone who thinks they may have had contact with Williams while he was impersonating an officer to contact CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020. Tipsters are anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
