GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - The father and son charged in connection to the death of Ahmaud Arbery are asking that Arbery not be called a victim.
Lawyers for Gregory and Travis McMichael filed motions last week. One motion requested that Arbery not be called a “victim” in the trial, arguing it would be prejudicial.
Another motion asks the court to limit photos of Arbery to just one in the trial.
Both McMichael’s have pleaded not guilty on several charges in the case. Part of their defense is an argument that they were attempting making a citizen’s arrest during the shooting death of Arbery.
Arbery was killed in a Brunswick neighborhood in February 2020. WTOC investigates found the state law that allows for a citizen’s arrest requires direct knowledge of a felony. Our investigation didn’t find any surveillance video or police reports that indicated a felony was committed by someone with the description matching Arbery.
