Progress to removing the overturned ship has been delayed as crew members working to salvage the Golden Ray test positive for COVID-19.
Nine out of 260 crew members tested positive. Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer John Miller told WTOC Thursday that plans have been placed on hold while infected crew are being quarantined. The plan was to start cutting the 656-foot ship into eight giant pieces in mid-July. They are now hopeful to begin work by the end of July.
The Golden Ray has been beached off St. Simon's Island since September.
