7 Lowcountry towns to consider face mask mandates Monday

In an effort to slow the spread of COVID, seven Lowcountry communities will gather today to discuss whether or not residents should be required to wear face masks in public.

The seven towns meeting today include Beaufort, Hilton Head Island, Folly Beach, James Island, Kiawah Island, Mount Pleasant, and Summerville. The communities could potentially pass ordinances to require the public to wear face masks in restaurants, grocery stores, and other public places.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encourages the public to wear face covering when in public and not able to social distance.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster said he doesn't plan to enact a statewide face mask mandate.
