SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) -Savannah Mayor Van Johnson announced on Tuesday that the July 4th fireworks on River Street this year will be canceled to minimize the spread of COVID-19.

The mayor says it’s too big of a risk to crowd everyone into the area to watch the show. He has proposed the idea of doing an alternate independence day celebration.
