Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms spoke with CNN on Sunday about the fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery, calling the shooting a "lynching of an African American man". She also said she believes if the footage of the shooting had not been released to the public, the two white suspects in the case would not have been charged.
“Had we not seen that video, I don’t believe they would be charged,” Bottoms told CNN’s Jake Tapper. "It's heartbraking. It's 2020 and this was a lynching of an African-American man."
Mayor Lance Bottoms also called out the President for emboldening those "prone to being racist".
"The rhetoric that we hear coming out of the White House in many ways, I think many who are prone to being racist are given permission to do in an overt way." the Mayor said of the incident.
Trump spoke to Fox News on Friday morning and called the fatal shooting a "very disturbing situation". During a call-in interview he also said 'My heart goes out to the parents and the family and friends."
