34 people displaced, 5 homes damaged after fire on Duffy St. in Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah Fire responded to a major fire at a string of housing units in the 600 block of Duffy Street overnight.

According to Savannah Fire Rescue, five housing units were engulfed in flames when they arrived around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning. Several fire engines had to be called out to help fight the flames.

The fire is out and firefighters remain at the scene to monitor hot spots. No injuries have been reported at this time.

Savannah Fire says 32 of the 34 occupants have been accounted for. They say the two residents who are unaccounted for were believed to be away at the time of the fire. Firefighters conducted multiple searches for the two residents and say an additional search will be conducted at daybreak.

The Red Cross is providing housing and assistance to the affected residents.

Fire officials have not commented on a possible cause.
