1 arrested, 18 weapons seized in illegal gun manufacturing case: SPD

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The Savannah Police Department (SPD) has arrested a man and recovered over a dozen weapons on Friday.

Officers with SPD’s Strategic Investigations Unit and SWAT, alongside partners at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), executed a search warrant at the residence of James T. Campbell, 35, in the 300 block of Edgewater Rd.

The arrest and recovery comes after an in-depth investigation into the manufacturing and trade of illegal ghost guns.

Officers discovered 18 firearms, multiple firearm accessories, firearm parts, firearm manufacturing tools, and tactical gear. They also recovered narcotics and drug paraphernalia.

Campbell was taken into custody and charged with four counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and three counts of possession of dangerous weapons.

“I’m extremely proud of the hard work of our investigators and federal partners,” Savannah Police Chief Lenny B. Gunther. “Their efforts have removed a dangerous individual and untraceable firearms from our community.”

The investigation is ongoing. Those with information are encouraged to call CrimeStoppers, 912-234-2020, or submit an anonymous tip through the SPD mobile app.
