CARL WEATHERS: Rocky Star Dead at 76

Rocky villain Carl Weathers has passed away at age 76.

His family says he "died peacefully in his sleep" on Thursday. A cause of death was not disclosed.

Weathers rose to fame as Apollo Creed, the boxing champ who faces off against Sylvester Stallone's Rocky Balboa, in the 1975 film. He returned for three sequels, with Apollo becoming a mentor to Balboa in Rocky 3.

More recently, he earned an Emmy nomination as Greef Karga in the Star Wars spin-off series The Mandalorian. Weathers's other credits include 1987's Predator and 1996's Happy Gilmore.

Weathers was married and divorced three times. He leaves behind two adult sons. (People)
