SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - An elderly driver accidentally drove through Ellis Square Saturday, according to Savannah police.

Savannah police say two adults were seriously injured and two juveniles have non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Chatham Emergency Services, five people were injured and one person refused medical treatment.

Witnesses say the driver drove out of the Whitaker street parking garage, and didn’t stop.

The witnesses described people running away and parents trying to pull their children out of the way.

“There were like, between 10 and 20 kids, and that’s an estimate, that’s not fact. And they start scattering, and I mean, I’m not an emotional person, but all I could do was scream high pitched and cry at the same time all this was taking place,” Witness Christy Atkinson said.

Savannah Police say that the driver of the truck has been taken in for questioning.

“The truck came out of the parking garage down there, we heard a bunch of tires squealing and stuff like that. He came up, jumped up off the steps. There were some kids playing and stuff out here. And he hit one of the kids and I guess the dad of one of the kids. And then ended up there,” Eric Horah, Witness Accident said.

The cause of the accident is currently unknown, but is under investigation at this time.
