BEAUFORT, S.C. (WTOC) - City of Beaufort leaders voted Monday to pass a “shelter-in-place” order.

The ordinance has been read and discussed, and was approved by a vote.

The ordinance will last until April 30.

The ordinance was put in place before Governor McMaster announced hisstay at home order.

Though the motion was passed, it was not without discussion.

Some council members worried a shelter in place order would be unconstitutional. Others, worried about how it would be enforced. But in the end, the human risk associated with COVID-19 won.

Other issues, like a curfew, were discussed, but ultimately opposed. But the concern for family members was a turning point in the discussion.
