HAZLEHURST, Ga. (WTOC) - The City of Hazlehurst will be placed under a Public Health State of Emergency effective Friday at 8 a.m. and last until April 15th.
According to the city, curfews will also take effect each night of the Emergency from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. This will also begin on Friday.
WTOC spoke to Mayor Bayne Stone in regards to the order.
“We found it necessary to anywhere where crowds are gathering, whether it’s a city club, a bar, a Sunday school class or whatever the gather is, that in order to try to provide for the safety of all of us, that we need to make sure that we don’t do that. That we separate ourselves and try to isolate ourselves to the extent that we can stop this vicious virus,” Stone said. “The curfew is strictly for all unnecessary, late-night, traveling about in our community. Naturally, the curfew does not affect essential activities, emergency activities, people going and coming back and forth to work. The curfew is from 10 p.m. until 6 in the morning.”
When asked how will it be enforced, Stone replied, “Our law enforcement people know what the criteria is that we’ve set for this curfew. If you violate it and we find that you’re in violation, there is a fine and even possibly jail time.”
