As Naya Rivera is still missing after her 4-year-old son was found on a boat the actress had rented in Lake Piru, California, authorities have presumed her dead and are now on a "recovery mission" to find her. Rivera's mother, Yolanda Rivera, is "frightened and concerned" about her daughter's disappearance as the search continues.
A source tells Us Weekly, "Naya’s mother is frightened and concerned and has reached out to loved ones late [Wednesday night] to pray for Naya’s return." The insider added that the family held a "prayer service" on Thursday, July 9th, while authorities continued their search.
According to TMZ, the Ventura County Sheriff says that over 80 people are involved in the search for Naya via the use of helicopters, boats, ATV vehicles, ground personnel, as well as specialized dive teams from surrounding counties.
Naya was discovered missing after her son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, was found on a pontoon boat. The 4-year-old was found asleep and wearing his lifejacket, however, an adult lifejacket was also present on the boat, leading officials to believe the actress was not wearing hers while in the water.
Captain Eric Buschow of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department told Us Weekly, "Another vest [was found] on board the boat for an adult, so it looks like [Naya] was not wearing [hers]. The son said they were in the water swimming together. He came up and got back up on the boat, but she did not. He was found on the boat by a passerby."
TMZ reports that Josey told deputies that his mom "jumped in the water ... but didn't come back up."
Rivera shares joint custody of Josey with her ex-husband, Ryan Dorsey. The couple split up and divorced in 2018. Josey is currently with family and is in good health.
